BOSTON, MA (July 16, 2013) – WEEI 93.7 FM has been nominated for the 2013 Marconi Radio Award for Legendary Station of the Year. This is the 6th time the station has been nominated, and first in the award’s most prestigious category. WEEI has won four Marconi awards, twice in 2006 for Large Market Station and Sports Station of the Year, once in 2008 and last year, 2012, for Sports Station of the Year.

“Being nominated in the legendary station category is such a tremendous honor and I want to thank and congratulate the WEEI programming staff for their incredible hard work and dedication to producing a great product on a daily basis” said Jason Wolfe, VP of Programming and Operations for Entercom Boston. “Additionally, I want to thank our listeners. Their loyalty and support over the years has been outstanding and without them, honors like this are not possible.”

Presented annually by the National Association of Broadcasters, the Marconi Awards are the radio industry’s equivalent to the Oscars, honoring stations and on-air personalities for excellence in broadcasting across 21 different categories.  This year’s winners will be announced on September 19th at the NAB Marconi Awards Dinner & Show beginning at 6:00 p.m. as part of the 2013 Radio Show at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida.  Established in 1989, the Marconi Radio Awards are named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, the father of long distance radio transmission.
