WEEI Sports Radio received a prestigious Marconi Award for Sports Station of the Year on Thursday night at the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Awards dinner and show in Dallas.

Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, the NAB Marconi Radio Awards are given to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio. Awards were presented in 21 categories. This was the seventh time WEEI had been nominated and the fourth Marconi Award win for the station.

"We cover team games and this Marconi Award was won by the entire WEEI team," said Jeff Brown, vice president and market manager, Entercom Boston. "Since 1991 our mission has been to deliver the very best in local sports talk and play-by-play. From our amazing talent and can't miss content to our sports play-by-play to our ever expanding digital presence, WEEI has never been stronger than it is today. This award proves that."

"It's a privilege to work with the best team in radio every day. Their passion, drive and determination to produce the most compelling and entertaining product day in and day out is what makes WEEI so special," said Jason Wolfe, vice president of programming and operations, Entercom Boston. "We're excited and honored to share this award with our loyal listeners, the best sports fans in America by far."

WEEI bested four other stations nominated in the category of Sports Station of the Year, including KTCK-AM in Dallas, WIP-FM in Philadelphia, WSCR-AM in Chicago, and WXYT-FM in Detroit. Marconi finalists were selected by a task force of broadcasters, and the winners were voted on by the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Selection Academy. An independent firm tabulated the votes.
