2020 NFL Mock Draft: Will Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa Be Second QB Taken?

Even if there aren't any technical glitches during Thursday night, round one of the 2020 NFL Draft appears destined to be crazy.

A week ago, we pondered the idea of former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa slipping, but acknowledged that it was unlikely that the 22-year-old made it past the Los Angeles Chargers at pick No. 6. In fact, in last week's mock, the Miami Dolphins still moved up a few picks to assure they got the chance to select Tagovailoa. Now, there's some belief that the Dolphins may view former Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert - who doesn't carry the same injury concerns - as a better investment than Herbert. And while we wouldn't bet on Tagovailoa lasting beyond the sixth pick, it doesn't feel impossible like it did even 10 days ago.

The craziest scenario may unfold if the Dolphins don't take either quarterback and instead choose to bolster their offensive line. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday afternoon that the Dolphins were "gauging the price to come up to No. 3 to potentially take an offensive tackle."

Of course, there's been a belief for much of draft season that the draft won't really start until pick No. 3 because the first two picks are viewed as a fait accompli, with the Cincinnati Bengals expected to select former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow and the Washington Redskins viewed as overly likely to take former Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.

But what if something different happens?

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported Wednesday evening that the Atlanta Falcons made an unsuccessful attempt to move all the way up to pick No. 2 and take the aforementioned Young. It feels very unlikely the Redskins will part with the second pick, and even less likely that if they did a team would take someone other than Young, but who knows.

In the end, like a March Madness bracket, an NFL Mock Draft can be busted relatively easily. The hope here is that this will provide the best glimpse into what will happen tonight, but we're also not going to root against mayhem.
