After a tough loss to Jacksonville last week, the Patriots will look to bounce back on the road Sunday night against a Detroit Lions team that has looked out of sorts the first two games of the season. The Lions are coming off consecutive losses to the Jets and 49ers, both teams that finished last season with a losing record.

Newly acquired receiver Josh Gordon could make his Patriots debut after being acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, although he is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. It's also unclear how much he'd be able to contribute in a new offense even if he is healthy enough to play. Patriots fans have long awaited a receiver as talented and as fast as Gordon since the departure of Randy Moss, but questions regarding Gordon’s discipline and work ethic loom large. Gordon’s career has been riddled with a variety of off-the-field antics, as described in detail here.

Last week’s tough matchup showcased both a Patriots offense that struggled to score and a defense that failed to limit Jacksonville. The Pats surrendered four touchdowns to Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, and allowed over 100 yards rushing despite the absence of Jaguars star running back Leonard Fournette.

This week should lend the Patriots a good opportunity to get back on track offensively, as they face a lackluster Detroit defense that has given up 78 points in the first two weeks. The Lions have also had a tough time offensively, as quarterback Matthew Stafford has thrown four interceptions in the first two games, and the Lions’ run game has unsurprisingly struggled to find a rhythm.

The Patriots will be without three usual starters on defense, as Patrick Chung, Trey Flowers and Eric Rowe were all ruled out on Saturday, but the Lions offens could also be without wide receiver Marvin Jones, who is questionable with an ankle injury.
