Forgetful rookie Robert Williams lost his wallet on back-to-back days before Summer League

We may finally know why Celtics first-round pick Robert Williams missed his flight back to Boston last week before joining his teammates out in Vegas for the Summer League. Just hours before the flight, Williams realized he had lost his wallet, according to MassLive’s Tom Westerholm

Obviously, it’s difficult to fly without identification.

Williams told MassLive his ex-Texas A&M teammate, D.J. Hogg, was in possession of the wallet. The problem is, Hogg was already in Dallas, roughly three hours away from Williams. The big man didn’t have his wallet the following day, either, but still managed to make it through security.

“It was like almost morning, close to the flight, just getting everything ready, putting everything by the door, and I'm like '(Expletive), I ain't got my ID,'" Williams said, per MassLive. "I'm like, 'Cool, they'll let me through.' I kept telling myself that. And then a couple of my homeboys was like 'Bro, like, that (expletive) is gonna be tough. They're not gonna just let you through.' But I got through.”

Amazingly, that was the second time in two days Williams had misplaced his wallet. He left it at his hotel the day of his introductory conference call, which he overslept.

Making matters worse, Williams is currently sitting out Summer League action with knee tendinitis. It was reported this week he also has an artery condition in both of his legs.

As a sophomore at Texas A&M last season, Williams averaged 10.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. The Celtics selected him with the No. 27 pick in the NBA Draft.
