For years, Barstool Sports’ critics have derided the company’s racist and misogynistic comment section as the scorn of humanity. It turns out David Portnoy agrees.

In a blog post published Friday, Barstool’s founder said he is shutting down the comment section due to the incessant bigotry that populates it.

“So I’ve noticed the comment section which I f—- despise and have despised for a long time is getting worse and worse,” Portnoy wrote. “We try to stop it. We try to ban people. We can’t stay ahead of it. I’m talking N bombs in every post. The last post I wrote there was a comment that said “I hope N bomb blow their heads off with a gun?” Are you serious? Well I’ve had enough. I’ve made the decision to shut it down effective immediately until we can regain control of it. And if we never bring it back I don’t care. I don’t care if you hate me, hate Barstool, etc. I don’t care. The racist s— has to stop. If we can’t stop it I’ll just eliminate it and that’s exactly what I just did. People will blame Erika, Chernin etc. Guess what they wanted to keep it and fix it. I’m told it will cost our company money with clicks. Guess what? I don’t care. It’s trash. The people in it are trash. Go read some other site. Don’t care. Bye losers.”

In the past, Portnoy has claimed he’s powerless to curtail the hate-speech of some of his followers. But he can give them a platform, and that’s exactly what the comment section was.

Now all of those racist remarks will be tweeted into the abyss, rather than surfaced on a multimillion-dollar media company’s website.
