Jaguars score six points against Titans after saying Week 2 win over Patriots felt like Super Bowl

The Jaguars followed up their self-described “Super Bowl win” over the Patriots in Week 2 with a stinker against the Titans Sunday.

That sentence encapsulates one of the big reasons why the Patriots have been able to stay on top of the AFC for the last 18 years, while everybody implodes at one point or another.

Veteran safety Tashaun Gipson raised eyebrows when he said Jacksonville’s 31-20 mid-September victory over New England “kind of felt” like the Super Bowl. Unsurprisingly, those words have come back to haunt the Jaguars, thought it is a bit shocking it took only seven days.

The Jaguars lost to the Titans 9-6 Sunday and struggled mightily to move the football. Blake Bortles only threw for 155 yards in the defeat, which is actually more than the winning quarterback, Marcus Mariota, whose right arm only picked up 100 yards.

Jacksonville did look like a legitimate contender after its big win last week. But now, the Jaguars resemble the 2012 Texans, who infamously wore letterman’s jackets into Gillette Stadium before a big Monday night game and got whooped.

Talking trash about the Patriots almost never works out.
