It took just one alley-oop for Jayson Tatum to make Celtics fans salivate even more about the upcoming season than they already were. Early in Boston’s preseason contest against the Hornets Sunday, the second-year star flushed down a pass from Terry Rozier, finishing high above the rim on a fast-break.

The bucket ignited a flurry from Tatum, who dropped 13 points in a 3:18 span in the second quarter.

While much of the attention this training camp has been on the returns of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, Tatum is perhaps the Celtics’ X-Factor. The 20-year-old forward performed like an All-Star during the Celtics’ incredible playoff run, averaging 18.5 points per game. With defenses destined to be stretched out with Irving, Hayward, Al Horford and Jaylen Brown, expect to Tatum to operate with lots of space this season.

Highlight dunks like these should be the norm. Opening night can’t come fast enough.
