Kyrie Irving and LeBron James hug it out after Celtics-Cavaliers

It was a tumultuous offseason for Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, who were mired in perhaps the biggest NBA melodrama of the summer. Irving reportedly blindsided James when he asked out of Cleveland, and says he didn’t consult the best player in the league on his trade request.

Further complicating matters was how long the deal between the Celtics and Cavaliers took to complete. Cleveland was displeased with Isaiah Thomas’ physical, and held up the trade for roughly one week.

With all that in mind, Tuesday’s NBA opener between the Celtics and Cavaliers was one of the most highly anticipated October contests in recent memory. But the apparent tension between the two sides subsided quickly, when Gordon Hayward fractured his ankle in the opening minutes of play.

The Cavaliers wound up winning 102-99, starving off a valiant Celtics comeback effort. After the final buzzer sounded, Irving and James hugged each other for a warm embrace.

Irving also found each one of his former Cavaliers teammates, swapping special handshakes.

It may have ended poorly for Irving in Cleveland. But he appears to still hold a bond with his ex-teammates, including James. Respect.
