When Gordon Hayward fractured his ankle in the opening minutes of the Celtics' season opener against the Cavaliers, silence fell among the crowd at Quicken Loans Arena. Hayward's Celtics teammates huddled around each other and many players on the Cavaliers appeared shaken as well. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, LeBron James checked on Hayward in the locker room as well. Isaiah Thomas, who helped recruit Hayward to Boston, was reportedly there as well.

Other professional athletes, including several NBA stars, expressed their support for Hayward on Twitter as well.

Paul George: "#PrayforGordonHayward"

JJ Watt: "Can't even put into words. Gordon Hayward. Feeling for you man. Absolutely gut wrenching."

Steph Curry: "(Pray) For @gordonhayward. Come back stronger!"

Shaun Livingston: (Praying for) @gordonhayward. Only God has ALL the answers."

Victor Oladipo: "Wow smh prayers up to @gordonhayward may God give you strength during this time."

DeAndre Jordan: "Praying for my guy @gordonhayward!!! NEVER want to see any of the guys go through anything like that."

Enes Kanter:

George's and Watt's support especially resonates. George broke his leg during the 2014 FIBA World Cup and returned that February, three months before he was expected to. Watt, who played just three games last year, is out with another season-ending injury.
