Robert Kraft may not want to stand next to President Trump on the White House lawn to celebrate his latest Super Bowl championship this year, but the Patriots’ owner apparently has no qualms about sitting next to him at dinner.

Kraft was one of several business leaders invited to the White House Monday for a Treasury Department-hosted dinner to honor the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. Rams owner Stan Kroenke was also at Trump and Kraft’s table, the Boston Globe reports.

The Patriots have not yet visited the White House, even though all five previous Super Bowl champions had wrapped up their celebratory trip to the capital by mid-May. Two years ago, the Patriots went in April.

NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran writes the Patriots don’t want to deal with the distraction of going, especially considering Kraft’s legal case. The billionaire mogul is still fighting prostitution charges in Florida.

Given Trump’s tendency to speak extemporaneously, there’s also the understandable fear he would comment on his longtime friend's case, further embarrassing him.

No word on whether the topic was broached at dinner, though it is worth noting Trump reportedly fumed over Tom Brady’s absence from the White House trip two years ago. He didn't even mention the quarterback, and one-time pal, in his speech.
