Former Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez stopped by Dale & Keefe on Monday during the Red Sox Foundation Golf Tournament and provided an update on David Ortiz's condition, having visited his old teammate at his home.

"He looks great," Ramirez said. "David looks awesome, and I'm so happy that I went to his house and saw him, we were watching the game and having fun, it was a great time. He's walking, he's moving, he's fine.

"All we've got to do is wait and keep praying for him and support him. He's a great guy. I was in Seattle (when the news broke), my son was playing a tournament and when I heard the news I couldn't believe it. But the Dominican Republic is one of those countries that you've got to be careful. But thank God that he's fine, it could've been worse."

Ortiz was released from Massachusetts General Hospital last week as he continues to recover from a June 9 shooting in Santo Domingo. Ramirez believes that despite the incident, Ortiz may return to the island at some point.

"He's still got family there," Ramirez said. "Maybe now when he goes back he's going to have to have some people around him to take care of him but hey, that's his country."

Ramirez also placed some faith behind the current Red Sox team, losers of eight straight and six and a half games back in the Wild Card race.

"It's part of the game, sometimes you're going to have good years, maybe next year's not going to be so great," he said. "All we've got to do is be patient, we know that they could do it, they've got so much talent. We've still got two months, they could still pull it out, they're so good."
