Seeing his first game action in over a month, Mitch Moreland began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. The first baseman has been out since July 7 with a right quad issue, and could see an extended stint in the minors before returning to the big leagues.

Moreland was slashing a very solid .225/.316/.543 over the first two months of the season before getting hurt.

Zeferjahn struggles in Lowell

The first pitcher taken by the Red Sox in the 2019 MLB Draft, Ryan Zeferjahn took the ball for his third start with Class A Lowell on Thursday and struggled, giving up two runs and two htis before exiting after just two-thirds of an inning.

Zeferjahn has been pulled early from all three of his starts, having thrown a scoreless inning in his first outing and two scoreless in his second, perhaps as he ramps up to going deeper into games, but Thursday was less successful, as he also walked a batter along with the two hits and two runs.
