It’s been widely reported that the Pawtucket Red Sox are expected to announce a deal to move the team to Worcester on Friday.

Dan Roche of WBZ tweeted hints that Larry Lucchino will be in attendance at a press conference Friday afternoon at Worcester City Hall for the announcement of the PawSox move. Roche explained that the deal includes a brand new ballpark.

Ethan Shorey, reporting for The Valley Breeze, tweeted that the announcement came to fruition Thursday night with a vote by the owners. The Rhode Island deal was still on the table but owners were wary about the state holding up its end, according to Shorey.

The Worcester deal would end a 45-year run at McCoy Stadium for the PawSox.The franchise is said to be eyeing a five-acre piece of land between Madison and Green streets as the site for a possible new ballpark.

According to the Worcester Telegram, Minor League Baseball filed for trademarks back in July for the “WooSox.”
