FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Aside from injured pitcher Steven Wright, the entirety of the Red Sox 40-man roster has now arrived in spring training, with Jonny Gomes, Shane Victorino and David Ortiz arriving in the clubhouse at JetBlue Park on Tuesday. Ortiz was not alone -- he was flanked both by his 9-year-old son, D'Angelo Ortiz, as well as agent Fern Cuza. Ortiz has made no secret of his desire to tack a one-year extension onto his current two-year, $30 million deal, and he said in an interview with WEEI last month that he had a "great conversation" with the club this offseason about just such a possibility. The two sides were expected to engage in further discussions about Ortiz's contract status during spring training, and so it was noteworthy that Cuza was in Fort Myers. Cuza characterized his presence as a routine spring training visit with his clients (he also represents Francisco Cordero, who signed a minor league deal with the Sox this week), though he allowed that as part of that routine visit, he might end up talking to Red Sox officials, including GM Ben Cherington. Ortiz is expected to address the media on Wednesday.
