Mark Whipple is apparently out at UMass.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Whipple has been fired as head coach of the Minutemen.

After Saturday’s 66-27 loss to Georgia, the Minutemen ended the season with a 4-8 record. Whipple led UMass to a 16-44 record since becoming their head coach in 2014. The 2017 season ended strong and there were high hopes for the 2018 season, but the Minutemen defense struggled all year long, contributing to the team’s poor season.

Earlier this year Whipple was suspended a game for using the word "rape" to describe a penalty.

There have been no comments made by Whipple or UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford at this time.
