On Thursday, NFLShop.com released their jersey sale rankings for the 2018 season and Tom Brady led the pack in the No. 1 slot.

This news had Colin Cowherd baffled.

"This should not be taking place," he said on Friday's edition of The Herd. "He's played 18 years -- we've all got his jersey. Statistically it was a down year for him. He has not been the story of the NFL all year. There was never a week where we latched onto Tom Brady. The Patriots are probably the quietest no. 2 seed in league history. There's a lso a half-dozen amazingly special, talented young quarterbacks. How is Tom Brady the no. 1 jersey seller?"

Cowherd began to talk himself into why such a crazy phenomenon had happened and it involved the now self-proclaimed GOAT in another sport.

"LeBron James leads the NBA in fan voting for the All Stars even though he's been resting and now hurt," said Cowherd. "I think what's happened is Brady and LeBron are active statues. They're legends and they're playing. Brady was the MVP last year, LeBron's the best player in the league and its so unprecedented. LeBron and Brady have both had deniers.

"There's always been these Brady deniers: it's Bill Belichick, it's the system, it's a bad division. But Peyton Manning was a rickety, old mess six years ago. Aaron Rodgers can't stay healthy. Cam's [Newton] been a rollercoaster, Big Ben's [Roethlisberger] a mess -- missed the playoffs again. Andrew Luck got hurt, Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt the minute he left New England and Carson Wentz is hurt. You get to a point with Tom Brady where it's not a coincidence. He's healthy, he's playing, he's 8-0 at home. He won. You can no longer deny."

Even after talking himself into why Brady won the top spot, Cowherd was still in disbelief.

"Longevity and health is a powerful thing but this makes no sense," he said. "There have been years that Brady in his prime wasn't the no. 1 jersey seller. There hasn't been a year with more rookie QBs and second-years who were fascinating and Brady leads it. It doesn't make any sense."

Brady last finished No. 1 in 2015, while finishing second in 2017 and 2016.
