Here is a look at what happened in the Red Sox farm system on Tuesday.

TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (59-59): W, 9-2 vs. Charlotte

- Carson Smith made another rehab appearance, as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. In his last rehab appearance in Portland, Smith gave up two runs, no hits and three walks in just a 1/3 inning of work. In one inning on Tuesday in Pawtucket, the righty threw 13 pitches, allowing no runs, no hits and just one walk, while striking out one batter. Six of Smith’s 13 pitches were registered for strikes. In addition, Smith’s fastball was clocked at 91 mph.

"He looked good," Pawtucket manager Kevin Boles said. "He said he felt good after his outing and that was a positive step in a positive direction. Good to see him get through a clean inning on 13 pitches - very impressive."

- The Pawtucket offense was led by Bryce Brentz and Deven Marrero. Brentz was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, a walk and two runs scored. Brentz is hitting .278/.347/.544 with 71 RBIs and 25 home runs for the PawSox this season. Marrero was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk and two runs scored. Marrero was optioned back to Pawtucket from the Red Sox on July 28.

- Starter Jalen Beeks threw six innings, allowing one run, three hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

"Beeks did his job," Boles said. "I thought he was pretty impressive. Had some swing and miss to his fastball, was able to spin a curveball, his cutter. He was pretty impressive - did a nice job."

- Ben Taylor also made a rehab appearance as he makes his way back from a left intercostal strain. Taylor threw 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs, one hit and one walk before getting double play to get out of the inning. Taylor has made 14 appearances with the big league club.
