Danny Shelton couldn't have been more relaxed when he received the call that would upend his football career.

The newest Patriots defensive lineman, acquired in a trade with the Browns this week, told Patriots.com what he was doing when he received word of the deal.

"I had just got home from my honeymoon," Shelton said. "We took a long nap and got the phone call from the GM letting me know. It was a bit of a shock, but exciting at the same time."

The 6-foot-2, 335-pounder was the 12th pick in the 2015 draft out of Washington. In his three years with Cleveland, the Browns won just four games, including zero during their 0-16 2017 season. One of those losses? Tom Brady's return from suspension in 2016. The Patriots won that game, 33-13, with Brady throwing three touchdowns to tight end Martellus Bennett.

"It's a tough team," Shelton told Patriots.com. "I remember playing against them in 2016. That was when Tom Brady came back. It was a tough game."

He's in for a new experience, and thus has a big-picture answer when asked what most excites him about playing for the Pats.

"Honestly, just being here," he told Patriots.com. "I know that this is a place is really just a winning culture. I know that that's something I want to do. I'm ready to just be a part of it and do my job."
