Danny Shelton couldn't have been more relaxed when he received the call that would upend his football career.

The newest Patriots defensive lineman, acquired in a trade with the Browns this week, told what he was doing when he received word of the deal.

"I had just got home from my honeymoon," Shelton said. "We took a long nap and got the phone call from the GM letting me know. It was a bit of a shock, but exciting at the same time."

The 6-foot-2, 335-pounder was the 12th pick in the 2015 draft out of Washington. In his three years with Cleveland, the Browns won just four games, including zero during their 0-16 2017 season. One of those losses? Tom Brady's return from suspension in 2016. The Patriots won that game, 33-13, with Brady throwing three touchdowns to tight end Martellus Bennett.

"It's a tough team," Shelton told "I remember playing against them in 2016. That was when Tom Brady came back. It was a tough game."

He's in for a new experience, and thus has a big-picture answer when asked what most excites him about playing for the Pats.

"Honestly, just being here," he told "I know that this is a place is really just a winning culture. I know that that's something I want to do. I'm ready to just be a part of it and do my job."
