Colts owner Jim Irsay needlessly put a scare into his fanbase over the weekend with a strangely cryptic tweet many took to be about Adam Vinatieri.

As noted by USA Today's FTW blog, Irsay took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that, "We're losing a legend today. Details shortly."

With legends in short supply on the four-win Colts, fans immediately assumed the worst and guessed that the 45-year-old Vinatieri would be calling it a career after 22 NFL seasons, including 12 with the Colts. Irsay's tweet garnered dozens of despairing responses that the future Hall of Famer had shockingly retired.

An hour later, however, Irsay broke the real news: that longtime radio voice Bob Lamey would be retiring. "He's an icon and will be greatly missed," Irsay tweeted.

Meanwhile, Vinatieri isn't going anywhere. He has made all four of his field goals this preseason -- including 51- and 57-yarders -- and is even featured in the logo of the team's official website.
