The Red Sox bullpen isn't just struggling. It's also battling injury.

After Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros, Red Sox manager Alex Cora revealed that setup man Matt Barnes is battling a sore hip and will be shut down for a few days.

"He's been dealing with inflammation in his left hip and grinding it out the last 10-12 days," Cora said. "And he actually had an MRI yesterday. As of now, we're going to stay away from him. We have to take care of him and get him healthy and whenever he’s ready he’ll be ready."

Barnes (5-3, 3.39) hasn't pitched since Monday's 8-2 win at Atlanta. He's coming off a brutal August that saw him allow 10 runs and four homers in just 11 1/3 innings.

"Treatment for now," Cora said. "He hasn’t pitched in a while. He was available in Atlanta, but where we were and him grinding it out, I tried to stay away from him. And talked to (trainer) Brad (Pearson). And then yesterday we had the MRI, we saw what happened. Now it’s a matter of dealing with the hip and getting it right. As far as throwing, we’ll see, we’ll talk about it tomorrow and map it out and hopefully it’s sooner rather than later, that he’ll be back in a few days."
