Major League Baseball is dying for a Red Sox-Yankees division series.

Pedro Martinez doesn't think it's going to happen.

Appearing on NESN on Sunday, Martinez predicted the Oakland A's will win Wednesday's wild card game in New York and open the division series in Boston on Friday.

"I would say Oakland," Martinez said. "Oakland is a scary team to play right now, especially for one game. Because Oakland wasn't supposed to be there."

The A's were no one's preseason pick to reach the playoffs, but they survived a staggering number of injuries to their starting rotation to compile a shocking 97 wins while finishing second to the Astros in the AL West. Led by slugger Khris Davis and one of the game's most versatile bullpens, Oakland would be a handful for anyone in a one-game series, and Martinez believes the A's will be too much for the Yankees on Wednesday.

"Oakland, I think has a lot to gain, a little to lose," he said. "They're not intimidated by anybody. It doesn't matter who you throw on that mound. Those kids in Oakland have a lot of talent, they're not intimidated, and they can swing it."
