The Red Sox announced a flurry of roster moves before Sunday's game against the Royals.

-- They placed catcher Christian Vazquez on the 10-day disabled list with a right pinky fracture.

-- Left-hander Brian Johnson joined him on the 10-day DL with left hip inflammation, retroactive to July 5.

-- Right-handers William Cuevas and Ryan Brasier were summoned from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace them.

-- To make room for Brasier on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox transferred right-handed pitcher Austin Maddox to the 60-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

Vazquez broke his finger sliding into second base during a delayed steal in Saturday's 15-4 victory over the Royals. He had just delivered a two-run single. The Red Sox were 19-5 in his last 24 starts. Sandy Leon and Blake Swihart will now share catching duties.

Johnson is 1-2 with a 4.23 ERA, though he's 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts, all Red Sox victories.

Cuevas allowed one run in two innings in his only appearance, on July 3 against the Nationals.

Brasier, 30, was just named an International League All-Star after recording 13 saves in 14 chances. He owns one other sting in the big leagues, allowing two runs in nine innings over seven appearances with the Angels in 2013.
