According to a report from NBC Sports Boston's Evan Drellich, the Red Sox have reached out to free agent first baseman Logan Morrison as insurance if they can't strike a deal with slugger J.D. Martinez.

The Sox have been sitting on a reported five-year, $125 million offer for Martinez, leading The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal to report that Martinez is ready to focus on other teams out of frustration that the Red Sox won't budge.

Morrison had a breakthrough 2017 for the Rays, blasting a career-high 38 home runs while compiling a career-best .868 OPS as well. The left-handed slugger wouldn't solve Boston's need for right-handed power, but the 30-year-old would at least give the Red Sox options with the start of spring training not even two weeks away.
