With more infielders than spots on the Red Sox roster, something has to give. According to a report, it could be either Brock Holt or Deven Marrero.

Per Sean McAdam of Boston Sports Journal, the Red Sox are shopping the two infielders. Marrero is out of options and would likely be claimed by a team intrigued by his defensive prowess, while Holt is slated to make $2.23 million, which the Red Sox would like to save.

Holt still has options, which means he could be sent to Triple-A Pawtucket, but the Red Sox would rather remove his salary from the books as they try to remain under the $237 million luxury tax threshhold. They're reportedly in the $230 million range at the moment.

As things stand now, if the Red Sox open the season with 12 pitchers, their bench would have room for only Holt or Marrero. The other reserves would be first baseman Mitch Moreland, catcher Sandy Leon, super utilityman Blake Swihart, and either Holt or Marrero.

According to the report, neither player has drawn much interest as of yet.
