Where's J.D. Martinez? Red Sox announce they have no announcements

The Red Sox have an announcement to make: They have no announcements to make.

That means, for a second straight day, no introduction of J.D. Martinez, the free agent slugger who recently agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract. The Red Sox had converted the media dining room into a press conference room on Wednesday night, but it was back to a dining room before Thursday's Northeaston-Boston College doubleheader.

The Red Sox had intimated on Wednesday that Martinez's physical could be delayed by the fact that the team is in Florida instead of Boston, which creates logistical challenges. Not only are there fewer medical facilities in Fort Myers that can quickly turn around test results, findings must be shared with doctors in Florida and Boston. It's unclear if the exam has revealed anything of concern.

Martinez's agent, Scott Boras, told the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo that he's unaware of any physical issue holding up the deal.

"I have no information from them other than 'the review is not yet complete,'" Boras told Cafardo.
