The Yankees appeared to be on their way to salvaging one win in Boston this weekend. Then they choked it all away late Sunday night/early Monday morning. The unexpected loss resulted in a four-game series sweep for the Red Sox, setting them 9 1/2 games ahead for the AL East lead. As you might expect, the New York media had some thoughts on the weekend. Here's a look at some of the reactions...

* WFAN's Mike Francesa declared the sweep “A new Boston massacre”.

* WFAN's Jason Keidel compared the series to a horror movie.

* The New York Post had a predictably distraught back page.

* New York Post writer Dan Martin took on Aroldis Chapman for blowing the save.

* Martin also wrote about Miguel Andujar messing up the throw that would have ended the game.

* Has baseball’s greatest rivalry been put on pause? Joel Sherman seems to think that the Yankees are so much worse than Boston that their new second half rivals are the A’s and Mariners.

* The New York Daily News also featured Chapman on its back page.

* Kristie Ackert of the Daily News acknowledges that after this weekend's sweep, it is inevitable that the Yankees will have to play in the Wild Card game

* The Red Sox are wicked good. According to the New York Times, the Red Sox knocked the Yankees back down to earth.

* The Yankees came so close to a win last night, but not close enough.
