The Marlins will finally be sold to Derek Jeter’s group for $1.2 billion.

Current team owner Jeffrey Loria agreed to the sale to the group led by New York businessman Bruce Sherman and Major League Baseball should receive the paperwork on Friday.

Sherman will be the “control person” and Jeter will handle the business and baseball operations sides of the franchise.

The group includes about 16 investors and Jeter is reportedly contributing only $25 million to the purchase.

The vote by the ownership committee on this purchase won’t happen for a few weeks and the closing of the deal is expected in early October.
