Jon Lester has very candid response to Cubs wild-card game loss

The Cubs lost a heart-wrenching wild card game on Tuesday, falling 2-1 to the Rockies in 13 innings.

And Jon Lester had a very straight-forward response to the end of his team’s season.

“Sometimes you need to get your (expletive) knocked in the dirt to appreciate it,” he said. “Maybe we needed that. Maybe we needed to get knocked down a peg or two to realize nothing’s going to be given to us.”

The former Red Sox pitcher won two World Series’ with the Red Sox and one with the Cubs in 2016.

“I think this will be good for our guys to get knocked down a little bit and to come into spring training a little hungrier than normal,” Lester added, via the Chicago Tribune. “We’ll be ready to go come February whatever the date is. It will be here in the blink of an eye.
