Julian Edelman had a big surprise for a seventh-grade girl recently when he found out she was being bullied for playing football.

Dejah Rondeau is a quarterback from Exeter, New Hampshire and wears No. 11 just like Edelman, her favorite player. When the Patriots found out Rondeau was being bullied for being a girl who plays football, the team invited her to Gillette Stadium, where she toured the trophy room with Robert Kraft.

She also played catch with Edelman himself.

“Heard we’ve got a quarterback here to take (Tom) Brady’s spot,” Edelman said when he met Rondeau.

“I heard about your story, about going out there and having a challenge, of dealing with adversity because people not accepting this, that,” he continued. “My respect level for you is just through the roof because you just ignored all the noise and you played the game we all love and that’s football.”

And then came the surprise.

“We’re gonna bring you to the Super Bowl, too, if that’s cool,” Edelman said. “Do you have any plans next Sunday?”

Rondeau, who now has plans on Sunday, was, understandably, shocked.

“That was crazy,” she said afterward. “I never knew — I never thought that would ever happen. I’m just really excited to go.”
