LeSean McCoy hired a prominent Atlanta lawyer on Wednesday as he mounts his defense against domestic assault allegations after his ex-girlfriend, Delicia Cordon, was attacked in Georgia during a home invasion.

Defense attorney Don Samuel will argue for McCoy innocence in the case. The Bills running back denied the accusations in a statement on Tuesday shortly after the news broke.

Georgia police are now investigating the home invasion at McCoy’s house and Cordon’s attorney released a statement suggesting her side believes McCoy was the one who broke into the home.

“The assailant demanded specific items of jewelry that had been previously gifted to Ms. Cordon by Mr. McCoy, which Mr. McCoy had requested back on many occasions,” the statement from the lawyer said. “In fact, after Ms. Cordon refused to return her jewelry gifts to Mr. McCoy, he would often suggest to Ms. Cordon that she could be robbed because the jewelry was expensive.”

McCoy has not been officially named a suspect in the investigation.
