Sports betting will not be legalized in Maine.

The state legislature fell short of the two-thirds majority that was needed to override a veto from Gov. Janet Mills.

Maine would have been the 21st state to enact sports betting. The state passed the bill in 2019 but Mills vetoed it, saying she was “unconvinced” her constituents wanted to expand gambling.
