-- Brandon Browner appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday to plead not guilty to the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Browner wore an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs for the hearing. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend during a July 8 incident in which he allegedly dragged the woman and tried to smother her in a carpet in front of her two children.

He is also accused of stealing the woman’s Rolex.

The 33-year-old cornerback is due back in court for a bail hearing later this week.

-- Justin Verlander is not exactly thrilled about his new teammate Roberto Osuna.

Osuna was acquired by Verlander’s Astros on Monday and is still serving a 75-game suspension after a May incident with a woman that resulted in criminal assault charges. He is likely to plead not guilty in Toronto on Wednesday.

Verlander, who has condemned players accused of domestic assault, did not seem enthused about Osuna being his teammate.

"It's a tough situation," Verlander said. "I think the thing for us to remember here is that the details have not come to light. We don’t know the whole story. Obviously, I’ve said some pretty inflammatory things about stuff like this in the past. I stand by those words."

In March, Verlander posted this tweet about Astros prospect Danry Vasquez after a 2016 video was released of Vasquez beating up a woman in a stairwell.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I still have a couple of days to work on that. We’ll come up with something.” -- Bill Belichick, on a present for Tom Brady’s Aug. 3 birthday on Friday
