-- Celtics guard Jabari Bird appeared in Brighton Municipal Court on Tuesday morning for a pretrial hearing in his domestic assault case.

The 24-year-old was arrested and arraigned in September after he allegedly assaulted, choked, and kidnapped a person with whom he had a romantic relationship. He is being charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and kidnapping.

This court session was brief and his next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 30. He was accompanied by his attorney, as well as Jaylen Brown’s mother, Mechalle, who is responsible for supervising Bird as part of the conditions of his release.

-- DeAndre Hopkins compared himself to Paul Pierce in a tweet on Tuesday after he was carried off the field on Saturday in the Texans’ game against the Jets before he eventually returned to the field.

In the tweet, Hopkins posted a side-by-side comparison of quarterback Deshaun Watson and running back Alfred Blue carrying him off the field on Saturday and a photo of Pierce being carried off the court during Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals.

“Squad got me like paul in the finals,” Hopkins tweeted along with the photos.

Pierce famously later returned to the court in a wheelchair.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Well, again, Tom’s a very experienced quarterback in our system, very experienced playing against our opponent, Pittsburgh, last week. He has excellent judgment and decision-making abilities and so, again, when the play is called, the ball is not supposed to go to anybody unless it’s a screen pass or something like that.” -- Bill Belichick, on Tom Brady
