Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy hasn’t done a great job coaching Boston in 3-on-3 overtime, but he’s done an exceptional job overall – not just this season, with the Bruins standing at 24-7-11 as of Friday, but having gone to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last season.

So now Cassidy will get a chance to practice coaching 3-on-3, but with some of the best talents in the entire league because the NHL announced he would be one of four coaches for the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis on Jan. 25.

Cassidy will represent the Atlantic Division, while his Cup Final rival Craig Berube of St. Louis will be behind the Central Division bench. Gerard Gallant of Vegas will coach the Pacific Division and Todd Reirden will coach the Metropolitan Division in the 3-on-3 tournament.

“It’s an honor, that’s what it means to me,” said Cassidy, who’s 141-59-33 in four seasons with Boston. “Obviously a reflection of the players, what they’ve been able to do this year on the ice. You know I get the benefit of it, and I thank the staff as well, we all work hard to do our part every day. But obviously the players perform on the ice, so they’re the ones that should be thanked first. But for me again, it’s an honor, I’ve never been to one, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Cassidy’s Bruins are 2-5 in games decided in overtime, including their 2-1 loss to Columbus on Thursday.

The NHL’s leading goal scorer, David Pastrnak, will also represent the Bruins at the All-Star Game. Center Patrice Bergeron is one of the finalists in a fan vote to determine one more player to go to the game. The results of that vote will be announced at a later date.

Date with the Oilers

Forwards Brad Marchand (sick) and Joakim Nordstrom (doctor's appointment), and defenseman Zdeno Chara (sick) missed practice Friday but are expected to play against Edmonton at TD Garden on Saturday. ... Jaroslav Halak will start in net for the Bruins.
