The "bad news" that we knew was coming about defenseman Kevan Miller became official Wednesday.

The Bruins announced Miller will miss at least five weeks with a cartilage injury to his larynx. After five weeks he'll be re-evaluated.

Miller was hit in the throat by a John Tavares shot late in the first period on Monday in Toronto. He went to the hospital and stayed overnight.

Defenseman Brandon Carlo, who has missed eight games with an upper-body injury, practiced Wednesday so he might be available to fill Miller's spot.
