After being healthy scratched in Boston the past two games rookie center Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson was assigned to Providence of the American Hockey League on Sunday.

Forsbacka Karlsson, who had one goal and three assists in 10 games before his recall to Boston, didn’t have any points or shots on net during a 3-2 overtime loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday.

Forward Trent Frederic, a first-year pro who competed with Forsbacka Karlsson for the Bruins’ third-line center job in training camp, made his healthy return to the P-Bruins lineup after being out since Nov. 10 with an injury. He scored a third-period goal and had three shots on net in the loss.

Frederic has six goals in 14 games this season, and it was unfortunate he was injured when he was because he could’ve been a candidate for a call-up to Boston when Patrice Bergeron was injured. Neither Frederic nor Forsbacka Karlsson made the Bruins roster out of training camp.

One would expect the Bruins to call up an extra forward from Providence on Monday before or after they practice, and before they leave for a two-game Florida road trip. Forsbacka Karlsson, Frederic, Ryan Fitzgerald (7-12-19 in 22 games) and Anders Bjork would be top candidates to travel to the Sunshine State with Boston. Bjork had two assists over the weekend with the P-Bruins.
