Name: Antoine Winfield Jr.

School: Safety

Position: Minnesota

Why the Patriots might draft him: They need help at safety and Winfield Jr. is one of the best. Also, it’d be tough to go wrong with a guy who’s the son of three-time NFL All-Pro cornerback Antoine Winfield Sr.

What is he good at: He’s versatile and physical with the ability to play strong against the run or the pass. In 2019 he was an All-Big Ten selection after he had 88 tackles (3.5 for loss, three sacks) and seven interceptions (returning one for a touchdown). Plus he remembers watching film in bed with his bad from the time he was little.

And then there is this: It’d be easy enough for Winfield Jr. to just cite Winfield Sr. as the player he most looks up to. But Winfield Sr. was a corner and Winfield Jr. is a safety. So at the combine he revealed someone else he tries to emulate: Tyrann Mathieu, the Kansas City Chiefs’ “Honey Badger,” who at 5-foot-9, 190 pounds is similarly built as the 5-9, 203-pound Winfield Jr.
