Prior to Monday’s game against the Indians, the Red Sox returned Dustin Pedroia from his rehab assignment and transferred him to the 60-day injured list. Pedroia was pulled from his latest appearance with Double-A Portland on Friday after playing four innings. The organization also elected to hold him out of Saturday and Sunday’s games.

“It’s another red flag,” Alex Cora told reporters on Saturday. “We talked a little bit last night. We talked this morning. He didn’t feel right yesterday. He’s not going to push it. He’s not going to make it worse. Yesterday, he didn’t feel right and decided to stop playing.”

Brock Holt also returned from his rehab assignment. Though unlike Pedroia, he was activated by the club. To make room for Holt, the Red Sox optioned Darwinzon Hernandez back to Double-A Portland.
