Red Sox lineup: Mitch Moreland mashing his way through May

It seems like every mistake an opposing pitcher makes against Mitch Moreland is getting hit as hard as possible. Even then, there are some pitches out of the zone he’s hitting hard.

Through his first seven games in May, Moreland has an OPS of 1.033 (.667 slugging percentage) thanks to his three bombs (including the one he hit in Friday’s win) and a double (which he also hit on Friday). Not to mention, he has 11 RBI, too.

Moreland is currently in the top four percent of the league in exit velocity this season (93.4 miles per hour on average). He’s mashing pitches down Broadway (100.9 MPH) but anything up and out of the zone, both on the inner half (108.2 MPH) and outer (106.8 MPH), he’s destroying. Oh, and if a pitcher throws in down and in, but slightly out of the zone and Moreland makes contact, that’s getting sent, too (105.4 MPH).

Moreland remains in the four-spot in Saturday’s lineup. Here’s the rest of the Red Sox lineup working in support of Rick Porcello on the bump:

Andrew Benintendi LF

Mookie Betts RF

J.D. Martinez DH

Mitch Moreland 1B

Xander Bogaerts SS

Rafael Devers 3B

Michael Chavis 2B
