In addition to adding Darwinzon Hernandez to the Major League club as the 26th man for Game 2 of the Red Sox doubleheader against the Tigers on Tuesday, Boston has promoted right-handed reliever Travis Lakins from Triple-A Pawtucket. Bobby Poyner has been sent down to Triple-A as the corresponding move.

The Red Sox 2015 sixth-round draft pick has logged eight innings over six appearances this season. He has a 3.38 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP on the year. But what stands out most with Lakins is his control. He has only walked one batter while striking out 10 in 2019.

Lakins features a plus-cutter and a fastball that can get reach into the uppers 90s. He also throws a changeup and curveball, both of which have their moments.

Lakins will wear No. 65.

Poyner heads back to Pawtucket after having made two appearances for the Red Sox, giving up two runs in each outing.
