Before his first game at the Garden in a non-Celtics uniform, Terry Rozier talked with Daniel Theis and Marcus Smart for about 20 minutes. He kept in touch with some of his old teammates over the summer, even throughout free agency — which was a much more bizarre experience than he expected.

“I had no idea how stressful it was going to be,” the Hornets point guard said. “The phones don’t stop ringing. It’s hard to get some sleep because you don’t know where you’re going to be. It’s a life-changing decision. It worked out, it worked out. Like I said, I had no idea how it was going to be. People told me about it, but you still don’t know until you actually go through it. But it worked out. . . It was crazy, but it was good.”

Rozier even kept in touch with Kyrie Irving a little. The two texted a bit over the summer and even tried to play pickup in Los Angeles when they were both in the area, though nothing came of it.

The Hornets point guard — who was described as “very coachable” by Hornets head coach James Borrego prior to Sunday’s preseason game — expects he and Irving will remain in touch going forward.

“Kyrie’s always going to be Kyrie,” Rozier said. “He’s always going to be one phone call away. So, whenever I need him I’ll reach out to him for sure.”
