Monday Red Sox Farm Report: Héctor Velázquez and Edgar Olmos combine for shutout win

Here is what happened in the Red Sox farm system on Monday.

TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (55-59): W, 7-0 vs. Charlotte

— Héctor Velázquez (7-3) pitched five innings, while Edgar Olmos pitched four innings in the shutout win. Velázquez allowed two hits and recorded nine strikeouts. The 28-year-old native from Mexico has a 1.93 ERA. Olmos, the 27-year-old lefty pitcher, has a 2.89 ERA and tallied three of his own strikeouts and allowed one hit on Monday. 

—Bryce Brentz went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs in the win and is batting .275. Throughout the summer, Brentz has increased his batting average. In June he was hitting .340, in July his average was .297, and August he has hit .240. 

DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS (53-58): Did not play. Scheduled to play Tuesday at Richmond. 

HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX (64-49): Did not play. Scheduled to play Tuesday against Buies Creek. 

SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE (62-50): W, 6-1 vs. Kannapolis

— No. 2 prospect Jay Groome (3-4) got the win after pitching five innings. He allowed three hits and notched six strikeouts. Groome was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for July 31-Aug. 6. The lefty pitcher and first-round draft pick in 2016 was assigned to Greenville in April, and has since had an ERA 6.68. 

— Ryan Scott sparked the scoring for the Drive after his double to left field, which brought Brett Netzer to score. The right fielder went 1-for-2 with one RBI and is batting .235. 

— Santiago Espinal found success at the plate. He went 2-for-5 in the win with a single and an RBI triple. Espinal is batting .246 and has started August on a high note. In August alone, he is batting .280. In 102 games, Espinal has recorded 99 hits, three home runs and 40 RBIs in 403 at bats. 

SHORT SEASON-A LOWELL SPINNERS (21-24): Did not play. Postponed due to rain. Scheduled to play Tuesday against Tri-City.
