FOXBORO -- The Patriots announced Wednesday that they have been awarded guard Mark Wetterer from the Bengals and have released safety Ross Ventrone. Wetterer was on the field for Wednesday's walkthrough, though until the Pats made the moves known, the identity of the new player on the field (a white No. 75 jersey to avoid confusion with the blue one worn by Vince Wilfork) was unknown. The Louisville product was initially signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bengals on July 26 and waived on Monday. He stands at 6-foot-5 and 319 pounds. Ventrone spent the majority of last season on the Patriots' practice squad after initially being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova.
