According to a story by Steve Buckley on the Boston Herald's website, Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl told Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo he would not be a candidate for the Eagles' coaching vacancy. DeFilippo said he spoke with Pearl on Friday morning to ask about other candidates, and Pearl proactively addressed his possible interest. Said DeFilippo:  '€œBruce said to me, '€˜You know how much I love Boston College. And I'€™d love to come back there. But Tennessee took a real chance on me, and I owe it to them to stay here and finish the job.'€™ '€ Pearl is a native of Sharon, Mass., who was a student assistant at BC under Tom Davis in the early 1980s. '€œIt was a very interesting talk,'€ DeFilippo said of his conversation with Pearl. '€œI'€™ve known Bruce for five or six years, and I think the world of him.'€ According to reports, DeFilippo has interviewed Fairfield coach Ed Cooley (a former BC assistant), Cornell's Steve Donahue and Richmond's Cris Mooney, and he plans to interview Northeastern's Bill Coen next week.
