Red Sox lineup: Dustin Pedroia returns, Mike Napoli remains out

August 18, 2013 - 12:29 pm

The Red Sox will have the services of Dustin Pedroia for the rubber match of their three-game Fenway series against the Yankees, one day after he slammed a foul ball off of his left shin (just above the ankle) in the eighth inning, but they will be without first baseman Mike Napoli, who was also out of the lineup on Saturday due to discomfort in his plantar fascia. With Napoli out, Daniel Nava will get the start at first base while Jonny Gomes will play left field and bat fifth against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia. Though the left-handed Sabathia will be on the hill, it will be switch-hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia rather than right-handed hitting Ryan Lavarnway behind the plate for starter Ryan Dempster. Saltalamacchia has actually fared respectably against Sabathia, hitting .263/.318/.368 against the New York starter. For complete batter vs. starting pitcher histories, click here.
