Report: Titans and Chris Johnson still not close to deal

The NFL regular season is just under a month away, and the Tennessee Titans have still made no progress in coming to terms with their best player. Running back Chris Johnson has still not reported to practice, and according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, the two sides aren't even close to a deal. Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt said he is willing to make Johnson the highest paid running back in the league, but Johnson reportedly wants to be one of the highest paid players in the league. Peyton Manning is currently the NFL's highest paid athlete with a three-year, $69 million contract. According to Wyatt, the number Johnson is looking for is $30 million guaranteed, which is $9 million more than DeAngelo Williams signed for in his new deal, and $10 million more than Steven Jackson got from the Rams in 2008. Johnson, 25, led the Titans with 1,384 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.
