The 2019 Red Sox schedule has its fair share of unique twists and turns.

While it was common knowledge that next year's slate of games for the Red Sox would be highlighted by a two-game series at London's Olympic Stadium on July 29 and 30, there is also an eyebrow-raiser when it comes to where Boston will open its season.

Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that the Red Sox will kick off their 2019 campaign with a series in Seattle starting March 28. It will be part of a three-city West Coast trip that will also include Oakland and Arizona. The first games at Fenway Park will kick off April 9 with the Blue Jays coming to town for a two-game set, followed by four against Baltimore. The six-game homestand leads into two games at Yankee Stadium.

While the club has opened the season on the road seven of the last eight years, this will mark the first time since 2008 that they do so on the West Coast. That year, the season began with a matchup against the Oakland Athletics that started in Tokyo, and concluded at the Oakland Coliseum.

The Red Sox' interleague foes will primarily be made up of National West teams, with Alex Cora's club going to San Diego and Denver in August. The Rockies, Dodgers and Giants all will make trips to Fenway.
