The Red Sox are going against the grain and staying with 11 pitchers for the American League Championship Series.

The Sox have decided to keep their roster from the American League Division Series for the best-of-seven showdown with the Astros. They are the only team among the LCS participants to not have 12 pitchers.

One of the biggest question marks regarding the roster was the availability of Mitch Moreland, who hadn't played since injuring his hamstring Saturday night against the Yankees. But after testing the ailment Friday the first baseman was deemed capable of participating.

Perhaps the chief reason for the Red Sox going with an additional position player is the need to possibly pinch-hit for Sandy Leon, along with the uncertainty regarding the health of both Moreland and third baseman Eduardo Nunez. Blake Swihart not only protects the Sox at catcher but also adds depth at first base while serving as the team's primary pinch-runner.
