The Red Sox had some interest in bringing back Joe Kelly. Just not enough.

In his first interview since agreeing to a three-year, $25 million deal with the Dodgers, Joe Kelly appeared on the Bradfo Sho podcast to explain why he chose the Dodgers. Kelly went on to explain that Los Angeles was the only club to offer three years. He also described how impressive the Dodgers came across, with team president Andrew Friedman hosting the righty for three hours last Friday.

When asked if there was a moment Kelly realized he wasn't going to be returning to the Red Sox he said, "I  don’t know if there was one moment besides this was the team I wanted to play for, this was the team that gave me a three-year deal, $25 million. There wasn’t writing on the wall before that. It was, ‘Here’s a three-year deal,’ and no other team was at the three-year mark. There were other teams in, but no other teams were at the three-year mark. I was already really, really involved with speaking with LA and understanding the philosophies and was already intrigued. So if you want a moment that was probably it.

"If there was another team involved this was the closest to staying with the team I won a World Series with."

Kelly went on to talk about his time in Boston and how he learned to handle -- and enjoy -- the intensity of the market. The pitcher also goes into great detail about the path taken to striking out the side in Game 5 of the World Series and why he reacted like he did when walking off the mound.
